Key Points:

  • US jobs data could reshape expectations for higher interest rates, while gold ETF inflows and central-bank purchases provide an underlying source of investment demand.
  • Gold trades near $4,042.668 per troy ounce. A four-hour close below $4,021.948 would confirm weakness, while recovery above $4,088.507 would invalidate the bearish view.
  • The Silver Institute forecast a 46.3mn-ounce deficit for 2026 in April, despite weaker solar demand. This remains a forecast, rather than a completed-year result.
  • Silver trades near $51.342 per troy ounce below $53.107 pivot resistance. A four-hour close below $50.515 would confirm weakness toward the next support at $49.013.

Gold (XAUUSD) and silver price forecast: US jobs data tests rate expectations as gold eyes $4,021.948 support and silver watches $50.515 after rejection.

Gold and Silver: Inflation Risks Meet Investment Demand Ahead of US Jobs Report

Spot gold trades near $4,042.668 and spot silver near $51.342 per troy ounce. Gold and silver face a test from today’s US employment data as higher oil prices revive inflation concerns. Investment demand remains supportive, but the immediate question is whether the jobs figures will reinforce expectations for higher interest rates.

Gold: Payrolls Test the Case for Further Rate Increases

Reuters reported Friday that renewed strength in oil had raised concerns about inflation and higher borrowing costs. Two Fed officials supported modest, steady rate increases on Thursday. Higher rates make interest-paying assets more competitive with gold, which pays no interest, so an inflation scare can weigh on bullion even when investors seek protection from rising prices.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics schedules today’s employment report for 1:30 p.m. GMT. Strong hiring or wage growth could reinforce the case for tighter policy; softer data could ease that pressure on the gold outlook. The Fed calendar also lists a discussion by Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman today, although its stated subject is supervision and regulation.

Gold Investment: ETF Inflows Provide Support

The World Gold Council’s November 5 update showed physically backed gold ETFs attracted $2.7bn in October, their fourth consecutive month of inflows. ETFs are investment products traded on exchanges; these funds hold physical gold. European funds led the buying, with Asian investors also adding exposure. Continued inflows despite October’s price weakness suggest that some investors are retaining gold for portfolio protection.

Separately, the council’s third-quarter report estimated net purchases by central banks and other official institutions at 321 tonnes. Reserve diversification remained a key reason for that demand. These purchases provide an underlying source of buying, although they do not prevent short-term selling when expectations for interest rates rise.

Silver: Weaker Solar Demand Meets a Forecast Deficit

Silver faces the same interest-rate pressure, with industrial demand adding another concern. The Silver Institute’s April outlook projected weaker industrial consumption in 2026, chiefly because of a slowdown in photovoltaic demand, meaning demand from solar technology. Manufacturers are reducing silver usage and substituting other materials where feasible. More solar installations therefore need not produce an equal increase in silver consumption.

The institute nevertheless forecast a 46.3mn-ounce deficit for 2026, meaning annual demand would exceed newly available supply. That remains an April forecast, rather than a completed-year result or a measure of immediately available metal. Investment flows and efforts to reduce silver use remain important alongside today’s jobs data.

Gold Technical Analysis: $4,051.452 Break Shifts Focus to Fibonacci Support

Gold Price Chart
Gold Price Chart

Gold trades near $4,042.668 per troy ounce on the four-hour TVC chart after its rebound stalled below the descending trendline, a line connecting lower highs. Price has slipped below $4,051.452 but remains above the red moving average, which tracks average prices over time.

Immediate support, where buyers may return, is the 50% Fibonacci retracement at $4,021.948, the midpoint of the marked rebound. The next support is $3,991.575. Resistance, where sellers may return, stands at $4,051.452, then $4,088.507. RSI, a 0 to 100 gauge of buying and selling strength, has fallen toward 50 and below its signal line, a slower average of RSI. I lean slightly bearish, favoring a failed retest of $4,051.452. A four-hour close below $4,021.948 would confirm further weakness; a sustained recovery above $4,088.507 would invalidate that view.

Silver Technical Analysis: $53.107 Rejection Exposes $50.515 Support

Silver Price Chart
Silver Price Chart

Silver trades near $51.342 per troy ounce on the four-hour Capital.com chart after rejecting the descending trendline near the $53.107 pivot, a marked reference level separating the bullish and bearish sides of the setup. The retreat below the red moving average shows that the recent rebound has lost strength.

Support stands at $50.515, followed by $49.013. Silver needs to reclaim the $53.107 pivot before $54.617 becomes the next marked resistance. RSI has slipped below 50 and its signal line, supporting renewed selling momentum. My bias remains bearish below $53.107, with a four-hour close below $50.515 needed to confirm further weakness. A sustained recovery above $53.107 and the descending trendline would invalidate the immediate bearish setup.
