Latest Updates
The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.50 percent at its December meeting, with policymakers highlighting the growing likelihood of a "soft landing" as international macroeconomic conditions appear relatively less constrained towards the end of 2023. In particular, it is mentioned the rapid deceleration in worldwide inflation and the less aggressive monetary stance by major central banks. The committee also acknowledged signs of a steady recovery of the domestic economy during the first nine months of 2023. Meanwhile, the annual inflation has slowed to 1.1% in November, reaching an over 2-year low, from 4.1% the prior month. The MPC also said it remains committed to vigilant monitoring and analysis of both international and domestic developments and prospects.
