U.S traders return from their Labor Day holiday and nervous trading may be seen. North Korea tensions still abound. Tonight, Robert Kaplan of the Dallas Fed will speak about monetary policy. The ECB will hold their monthly Press Conference on Thursday and it is being heavily anticipated.
Wall Street will be watched closely as U.S traders return after their long holiday weekend. Global trading has been nervous early this week as tensions with North Korea have escalated. U.S investors will also have to deal with the ramifications of Hurricane Harvey as damage estimates are considered. This evening Dallas Federal Reserve President Robert Kaplan will deliver a potentially important speech regarding monetary policy outlook, which will impact forex.
Most Asian equities stayed under pressure today. The Yen has range traded against the U.S Dollar. Caixin Services Purchasing Managers Index numbers for China proved better than expectations. And China is tentatively scheduled to release Trade Balance data on Friday. While most equity exchanges face headwinds today, the Shanghai Shenzhen composite put in slight gains.
Italian, Spanish and French Services PMI numbers have come in below their estimates this morning. As a result, the Euro has traded slightly lower against the U.S Dollar and is below 1.19. The European Central Bank will hold their monetary policy meetings this week and President Mario Draghi’s Press Conference is being anticipated on Thursday. European equities have been positive in trading early this morning.
Crude Oil remains above 47.00 U.S Dollars a barrel after climbing late last week. The effects from Hurricane Harvey are still being quantified and Crude Oil could see volatility upon the return of American traders today. Speculators may continue to seek upside value with the commodity.
Investors will examine comments made by Federal Reserve member Robert Kaplan later today at 22:05 GMT.
