Interpol has held a conference in Singapore focusing on cryptocurrency ‘mixers’ and the use of the Dark Net to launder money. And Bitcoin has continued to add value early this week, but with rather unconvincing gains.
Interpol has held a conference in Singapore which focused on the Dark Net and cryptocurrencies. The International Criminal Police Organization saw 19 countries participate in the summit, which focused on threats to law enforcement regarding transparency about cryptocurrencies which can lead to money laundering. Concerns about cryptocurrency ‘mixers’ which have the ability to obscure the original source of digital assets being used were highlighted. Interpol has also announced it will hold a second conference covering these topics again in Germany in October 2018.
Bitcoin has not escaped its bear trend yet. The price of the digital asset as of this morning has been around 7300.00 U.S Dollars per coin. In order for Bitcoin to see a significant change in sentiment, it will likely have to break through the 8000.00 juncture and to really turn heads and create a renewed speculative rally a rise above resistance around 9000.00 would likely help. Even though Bitcoin has gained early this week, compared to its soaring values in late November and December of 2017, the cryptocurrency remains rather range bound and not a convincing buy for some traders. Critical support remains the 6600.00 mark, and should that value crumble the 5700.00 level would set off immediate alarm bells.
It has been reported in South Korea that a large wave of millennial-aged people is feeling the effects from the decline in values from cryptocurrencies. South Korea is a large digital asset trading center and many millennials have speculated in the crypto marketplace. The declining values of digital assets have apparently created a wave of disgruntled young traders who are now reporting substantial monetary losses after being caught on the wrong side of the bear trend. This also raises concerns regarding American students who have acknowledged they have been using their government student loans to speculate in cryptocurrencies.
