Bulgaria’s annual inflation rate edged down to 2.1% in August 2024 from 2.4% in the previous month, as transport costs fell for the first time in seven months (-0.2% vs 5.3% in July). Prices for clothing & footwear (-2.5% vs -1.5%) and communication (-4.3% vs -5.1%) also declined. At the same time, costs softened for restaurants & hotels (7.9% vs 8.5% in July), education (6.7% vs 6.9%), miscellaneous goods & services (4% vs 4.3%), and health (2.3% vs 2.9%). On the other hand, prices increased for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.3% vs 1.5%), housing & utilities (2.8% vs 2.5%), and recreation & culture (2.7% vs 2.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices ticked up 0.1% in August, slowing from a 0.8% rise in July.
