The annual core inflation rate in the United Kingdom fell to 3.2% in September 2024 from 3.6% in the previous months, marking the lowest figure since September 2021. Figures were less than market estimates of 3.4%, with the CPI services annual rate moderating (4.9% vs 5.6% in August) while the CPI goods annual rate dropped further (-1.4% vs -0.9%). On a monthly basis, core consumer prices edged up 0.1% after the steepest rise in three months of 0.4% in August.
