(Reuters) – Dangerous driving was a factor in an accident that killed four cadets last April at the Royal Military College campus in Kingston, Ontario, according to findings from a Canadian military investigation announced on Friday.

The officer cadets – Jack Hogarth, Andrei Honciu, Broden Murphy and Andres Salek – were all in their 4th year at the military college, and were traveling together in a personal vehicle when the car went into the St. Lawrence River.

The investigation into their deaths found no evidence of foul play, a statement from the Office of the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal said.

“The investigation determined that the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle was a factor resulting in the vehicle entering the water,” it said.

The official cause of death was announced as drowning.

The families “have asked that their privacy be respected as they continue to grieve this terrible event and that no additional information be released,” the statement said.
