Armenia’s foreign trade is limited due to landlocked location and border disputes with Turkey to the west and Azerbaijan to the east. As a result Armenia usually reports high trade deficits. Armenia’s main exports are metals and precious stones followed by energy, beverages, and vegetables and fruit. Armenia mainly imports oil, natural gas, cereals, rubber manufactures, cork and wood, and electrical machinery. Armenia’s main trading partners are Russia, Germany, Iran, the United States, China, Ukraine and Turkey .

Armenia recorded a trade deficit of USD 264 million in August 2024 compared to a deficit of USD 416 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, as exports grew more than imports. Year-on-year, exports surged by 59% to USD 945 million, while imports rose by 19% to USD 1,209 million.
