Bulgaria’s trade deficit narrowed to BGN 792.4 million in August 2024 from BGN 894.3 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, preliminary estimates showed. Exports fell by 1.9% year-on-year to BGN 6,826.6 million, driven by lower sales to the EU (-2.2%) and non-EU countries (-1.5%). Meanwhile, imports declined faster at 3% to BGN 7,619 million, dragged down by arrivals from EU (-10.6%), while imports from non-EU countries increased (7%). In the first eight months of the year, the country’s trade gap widened to BGN 7,516.5 from BGN 5,961.5 million in the same period last year.
