Latest Updates
The Eurozone’s Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) rose to 95.2 in January of 2025 from the four-year low of 93.7 in the previous month, ahead of market expectations of 94.1 to momentarily indicate that the decline in the bloc’s economic activity has bottomed. Pessimism softened for industrial goods producers (-12.9 vs -14.1 in December 2024) amid a rebound in production expectations, and confidence improved sharply for service providers (6.9 vs 6) as demand in the previous quarter was higher than firms had expected. On the other hand, pessimism for retailers picked up (-5 vs -4.5) to suggest that consumer appetite remained at muted levels.
