Hungary's main exports are machinery and transport equipment, consumer goods, agricultural products, chemicals, apparel, textiles, iron and steel, and wine. Hungary's major imports are machinery and equipment, other manufactures and fuels and electricity. European Union is by far its largest trading partner, accounting for about 79% of exports and 76% of imports.

Hungary’s trade surplus narrowed sharply to EUR 742 million in November 2024, from EUR 1,457 million in the same month last year, preliminary estimates showed. Exports dropped by 3.5% year-on-year to EUR 12,582 million, while imports increased by 2.3% to EUR 11,841 million. The share of EU member states was 76% in exports and 72% in imports. Considering the January to November period, the country posted a trade surplus of EUR 11,110 million.
