Latest Updates
Motorbike sales in Indonesia grew 4.0% year-on-year to 581,277 units in February 2025, recovering from a downwardly revised 5.5% decline in the previous month. This marked the first increase in motorbike sales since last October, due to a low base effect last year as consumers shifted their consumption ahead of Eid al-Fitr amid a surge in food prices. On a monthly basis, motorbike sales rose by 3.7% in February, easing sharply from a 38.1% jump in January, due to the impact of the imposition of additional motorbike taxes taking effect in 2025. Last year, sales rose by 1.5%, reaching 6.3 million units, within the forecast range provided by the Association of Indonesia Motorcycle Industry (AISI) of 6.2 to 6.5 million units. In 2025, AISI expects car sales to reach a target range of 6.4-6.7 million units before the government implements an additional motorbike tax. AISI will recalculate its 2025 sales forecast due to the impact of the tax policy and to assess economic conditions.
