In Kazakhstan, the main components of the consumer price index are: food and non-alcoholic beverages (34 percent of the total weight); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (18 percent) and clothing and footwear (12 percent). Transport accounts for 9 percent; household equipment for 5 percent; recreation and culture for 4 percent and alcoholic beverages and tobacco for 4 percent. Others include: miscellaneous goods and services (3.9 percent); health care (3 percent); communications (2.9 percent); education (2.7 percent) and restaurants and hotels (2 percent). The national index has a base of 100 as of 1995. The CPI reflects the prices and spending patterns registered in the fourteen regional capitals and 27 major cities.

The annual inflation rate in Kazakhstan increased to 9.4% in February 2025, up from 8.9% in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since January 2024, driven by price increases for food (6.5% vs 5.8% in January), non-food products (8.7% vs 8.4%), and paid services (14.1% vs 13.8%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.5%, the highest since October 2022, following a 1.1% gain in the previous month.
