Portugal Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate in Portugal was at 6.2% in January 2025, down from 6.5% in December and below 6.4% a year earlier. This was the lowest jobless rate since October 2022, as the number of unemployed individuals decreased to 342.1 thousand from 349.5 thousand in the prior month, and the employed population rose to 5.167 million from 5.133 million. The employment rate ticked up to 64.6% from 64.5% and the labor force participation rate held steady at 68.9%. The youth unemployment rate, which measures job-seekers between the ages of 16 and 24, fell to 19.5%, the lowest since June 2023, down from 20.4% in December.
