Romania’s trade deficit increased to EUR 2.87 billion in February 2025 from EUR 2.18 billion in the same month of the previous year. Imports rose by 6.3% year-on-year to a 3-month high of EUR 10.77 billion, reflecting higher purchases from both EU countries (up 5.2%) and non-EU countries (up 9.2%). Meanwhile, exports fell by 0.7% to EUR 7.90 billion, driven by a 4.7% drop in sales to EU countries, despite a 10% increase in shipments to non-EU countries. Considering the first two months of the year, the trade deficit stood at EUR 5.62 billion, widening from a gap of EUR 4.16 billion in the corresponding period of 2024, as import growth (8.2%) significantly outpaced the modest rise in exports (0.7%).
