Romania's trade deficit increased to EUR 2.88 billion in August 2024 from EUR 2.64 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Imports fell by 3% year-on-year to EUR 9.4 billion, weighed down by lower purchases from EU countries (-5.8%). However, arrivals increased from non-EU countries (3.6%). Meanwhile, exports decreased at a faster 7.5% from a year earlier to EUR 6.5 billion, primarily attributed to reduced sales to EU (-6.9%) and non-EU (-9%) countries. Considering the first eight months of the year, the country’s trade gap increased to EUR 20.92 billion from EUR 15.61 billion in the same period last year.
