Romania's trade deficit narrowed to EUR 3.34 billion in December 2024 from EUR 3.43 billion in the same month of the previous year, as exports grew faster than imports. Exports climbed 7.1% year-on-year to EUR 6.58 billion, driven by strong growth in sales to non-EU countries (19%) and, to a lesser extent, to the EU (2%). Meanwhile, imports increased 3.5% to EUR 9.92 billion, with purchases rising from non-EU countries (9.2%) and EU countries (1.3%). For the full year of 2024, the trade gap widened to EUR 33.39 billion from EUR 28.97 billion in 2023, as exports fell (-0.4%) while imports grew (3.3%).
