Romania's trade deficit widened to EUR 2.57 billion in September 2024 from EUR 2.16 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Imports grew 4.2% year-on-year to EUR 10.72 million, primarily attributed to higher purchases from both EU (2.1%) and non-EU (10.1%) countries. Meanwhile, exports rose at a much softer 0.3% to EUR 8.15 million, mainly due to modest increase in sales to both EU (0.2%) and non-EU (0.6%) countries. Considering the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade gap was recorded at EUR 23.48 billion.
