Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 2.95 billion in July 2024 from EUR 2.28 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, as imports grew more than exports. Year-on-year, imports surged 13.4% to EUR 11.27 billion, driven by higher purchases from EU (6.6%) and non-EU countries (32.9%). Meanwhile, exports rose at a softer 8.6% from a year earlier to EUR 8.32 billion, mainly due to increased sales to EU (5.1%) and non-EU countries (18%). Considering the first seven months of the year, the country’s trade gap increased to EUR 18.04 billion from EUR 15.6 billion to the same period last year.
