Food prices in Singapore increased by 2.6% year-on-year in September 2024, following a 2.7% gain in the previous two months and marking the softest rise since February 2022. Within food, excluding food servicing services, cost continued to rise for bread & cereals (3.5% vs 3.1% in August), meat (0.6% vs 0.4%), milk, cheese & eggs (0.4% vs 0.9%), fruits (2.5% vs 1.3%), non-alcoholic beverages (2.5% vs 1.9%), oils & fats (2.3% vs 1.5%), vegetables (3.5% vs 3.3%), and other food (5.2% vs 4.0%). In contrast, prices fell further for fish & seafood (-4.4% vs -5.3%), and sugar, preserves & confectionery (-0.3% vs -1.6%). Among food servicing services, prices grew further for restaurant foods (3.8% vs 4.3%), fast foods (3.1% vs 3.3%), hawker food (2.9% vs 3.1%), and catered food (2.6% vs 2.6%).
