Latest Updates
Slovakia’s economy grew by 1.2% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, consistent with preliminary estimates, slowing from a revised 2% expansion in the previous period. This marked the slowest growth since Q1 2023, primarily due to a sharp moderation in domestic demand (0.9% vs. 5.2% in Q2). Household spending (1.5% vs. 2.5%) and public administration expenditures (0.9% vs. 5.6%) both saw significant slowdowns. Additionally, gross fixed capital formation fell by 8% (vs 4.4%), its first decline in nearly two years. Net trade also weighed on GDP growth, as exports fell by 0.2% while imports rose by 0.3%. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy grew by 0.3%, up from a revised 0.2% expansion in the previous period.
