In Slovakia, the most important industries are engineering, chemical, electrotechnical engineering, wood-processing and food industry. On the expenditure side, household consumption is the main component of GDP and accounts for 57 percent of its total use, followed by gross fixed capital formation (21 percent) and government expenditure (19 percent). Exports of goods and services account for 92 percent of GDP while imports account for 88 percent, adding 4 percent of total GDP.

Slovakia’s economy advanced by 1.2% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, well below market forecasts of a 2% expansion and easing from a 1.9% rise in the previous period, a preliminary estimate showed. This marked the fifteenth consecutive quarter of economic growth. though at the slowest pace since the first quarter of 2023, mainly affected by domestic demand and in particular by the final consumption of households and public administration. On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the GDP grew 0.3% in the September quarter, following a 0.4% gain in the preceding quarter.
