The Swiss unemployment rate rose to a non-seasonally adjusted 2.8% in December 2024, compared to market estimates and November’s 2.6%. This marked the highest reading since July 2021, as the number of unemployed persons increased by 9.2 thousand from the previous month to a three-and-a-half-year high of 130.3 thousand. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, went up to 2.7% from 2.6% in November, with the number of young unemployed increasing by 0.3 thousand to 12.2 thousand The number of vacancies reported dropped by 2.5 thousand to 30.4 thousand positions during the period.
