The Swiss unemployment rate rose to a non-seasonally adjusted 2.8% in December 2024, compared to market estimates and November’s 2.6%. This marked the highest reading since July 2021, as the number of unemployed persons increased by 9.2 thousand from the previous month to a three-and-a-half-year high of 130.3 thousand. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, went up to 2.7% from 2.6% in November, with the number of young unemployed increasing by 0.3 thousand to 12.2 thousand The number of vacancies reported dropped by 2.5 thousand to 30.4 thousand positions during the period. Adjusted for seasonal factors, the jobless rate remained at 2.6% in December.
