Latest Updates
Zimbabwe's monthly consumer inflation for the local unit dropped to 0.5% in February 2025, the lowest in seven months, marking a sharp decrease from January's 10.5%. Price growth slowed for both food (0.8% vs. 6.8% in January) and non-food items (0.3% vs. 4.6%). On February 6, the central bank kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 35% for the second straight time, reaffirming its commitment to a tight policy stance to curb market volatility. Despite stabilization efforts, the ZiG faces resistance, particularly in the informal market, where currency regulations are loosely enforced. The ZiG accounts for 30% of all transactions, with the rest conducted in US dollars. Earlier this month, Governor John Mushayavanhu ordered companies listed on the exchange to adopt the ZiG for reporting purposes with immediate effect, including in their 2024 audited financial statements.
