The seasonally adjusted estimate for total dwellings approved in Australia declined by 5.8% month-over-month to 16,455 units in September 2022, unrevised from a flash figure and shifting from a final 23.1% jump a month earlier. Private sector houses approved fell 7.8% to 9,628 units, after a 4.8% increase in August; and private sector dwellings excluding houses permits were down 1.8% to 6,622 units, following a 68.3% surge previously. Across Australia, permits decreased in South Australia (-19.7%), Tasmania (-10.8%), Western Australia (-9.3%), New South Wales (-8.8%), and Queensland (-6.2%). Victoria was the only state to record an increase, rising 3.4%. Through the year to September, dwellings approved sank 13.0%.
