The annual inflation rate in Austria edged higher to 2% in December 2024, from 1.9% in the previous month, matching preliminary estimates and in line with the ECB's 2% stability target. Prices rebounded for transport (1% vs -0.6% in November), while it increased at a faster pace for restaurants and hotels (6.3% vs 6%) and recreation and culture (2.1% vs 1.5%). On the other hand, costs moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.6% vs 2.1%) and housing and utilities (0.2% vs 0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged higher to 0.6% in December 2024 from 0.3% in the previous month, matching preliminary estimates. Meanwhile, the harmonized index increased 2.1% year-on-year and rose 0.7% from a month earlier.
