In Brazil, the Markit Brazil Composite PMI Index tracks business trends across both the manufacturing and service sector activity, based on data collected from a representative panel of around 800 companies. The index tracks variables such as sales, new orders, employment, inventories and prices. A reading above 50 indicates expansion in business activity and below 50 indicates that it is generally declining.
Latest Updates
The S&P Global Composite PMI for Brazil rose to 55.9 in October 2024, up from 55.2 in September, indicating robust private sector growth driven by a strong rise in demand for goods and services. Sales reached their highest pace in 28 months, led by the service sector, while manufacturing saw slower gains. Employment increased at its joint-weakest pace since late 2023, with recruitment slowing due to cost considerations, especially in services. Input costs rose at a more moderate rate, particularly in manufacturing, and while price increases for goods softened, service charge inflation remained stable.
