China’s surveyed unemployment rate fell to 5.2% in March 2025, easing from a two-year high of 5.4% in the previous month and coming in below market expectations of 5.3%. The jobless among the locally registered labor force stood at 5.3%, while the rate for the non-local registered labor force was lower at 4.9%. Within this group, those with agricultural registration saw a jobless rate of 5%. Across 31 major cities, the urban survey unemployment rate also came in at 5.2%. Meanwhile, the average weekly working hours for employees in enterprises nationwide reached 48.5 hours. For the first quarter overall, the national urban survey unemployment rate averaged 5.3%.
