In Iran, the most important categories in the consumer price index are Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (29 percent of total weight) and Food and beverages (28.5 percent of total weight). The annual (point-to-point) inflation rate in Iran eased to 31.2% in September (Shahrivar) of 2024 from 31.6% in the preceding month. It marked the lowest reading since May (Ordibehesht) as prices of food and non alcoholic beverages (% vs 24.4% in August) rose at the slowest pace in four months. Other contributors the increase were housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (41.5% vs 42.1%); transport (28.9% vs 28.4%); health (27.8% vs 28.2%); clothing and footwear (41.5% vs 32.1%), and furnishings, and household equipment (24.6% vs 23.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up by 1.7%, following a 2.2% increase in the previous month.
