Japan’s industrial production rose 2.5% month-over-month in February 2025, exceeding market forecasts of a 2.3% increase, according to preliminary data. This rebound follows three consecutive months of decline and marks the highest reading since March 2024. The strongest contributors to the increase were production machinery, electronic parts & devices, and chemicals (excluding inorganic and organic chemicals, as well as medicine). On the other hand, the worst-performing sectors included transport equipment (excluding motor vehicles), inorganic & organic chemicals, and iron, steel & non-ferrous metals. On an annual basis, industrial production grew 0.3%, slowing from January’s 2.2% gain.
