Laos Inflation Rate

Laos' inflation rate climbed to 40.3% year-on-year in January 2023, the highest in 23 years, from 39.3% in the previous month. Inflation has increased significantly since the beginning of 2022, underpinned by a sharp depreciation of the national currency, the kip. Main upward pressure came from prices of communications and transport (49.9%); food & non-alcoholic beverages (47.1%); health (42.2%); housing & utilities (34.2%) and hotels & restaurants (34%).
