Malaysia Food Inflation

Food prices in Malaysia increased by 2.7% year-on-year in December 2024, following a 2.6% rise in the previous month and marking their strongest pace since October 2023. Upward price pressure came from food at home (0.9% vs 0.6% in November), cereals & cereal products (0.5% vs 0.4%), fish & other seafood (0.2% vs -0.1%), oils & fats (0.7% vs 0.3%), fruits & nuts (0.6% vs 0.1%), vegetables (3.6% vs 1.1%), sugar, confectionery & desserts (1.0% vs 1.0%), and food away from home (4.8% vs 4.8%). On the other hand, cost fell for meat (-0.3% vs 1.6%), and milk, other dairy products & eggs (-0.1% vs -0.1%).
