The annual inflation rate in Mauritius fell for the second month, reaching a near four-year low of 1.9% in January 2025, down from December's 2.9%. Prices moderated primarily for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9% vs 7.3% in December), health (5.3% vs 7.8%) and miscellaneous goods & services (4.9% vs 5.6%). Additionally, decreases were seen for transportation (-2.6% vs -1.4%) and housing & utilities (-1.6% vs -2.6%). On the other hand, prices increased noticeably for education (11.4% vs 3.3%), insurance & financial services (9.9% vs 1.5%) and restaurants & hotels (8.3% vs 6.2%)..On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.5% in January, the most in nearly a year, following a 0.5% decrease in the prior month.
