In Moldova, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is divided in three main groups: Food, accounting for 40 percent of total CPI; Non-Food, which represent 35 percent and Services making up the remaining 25 percent. The most important food items are meat (8.1 percent), fruits & vegetables (6.2 percent), milk & dairy products (5.5 percent) and bread (2.9 percent). The non-food items are mainly composed of clothing & footwear (5.9 percent) and fuels (5.9 percent); and services include housing (10.5 percent), utilities (8.7 percent) and transportation (2.4 percent).

The annual inflation rate in Moldova climbed to 9.1% in January 2025 from 7% in December 2024. This marked the highest inflation rate since August 2023, as prices increased at a faster pace across all sub-indices: food products (7.43% vs. 7.17% in December), non-food products (4.69% vs. 4.55%), and services (18.04% vs. 10.53%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose to 2.8% in January 2025 from 1% in December 2024, marking its highest level since April 2022.
