In Moldova, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is divided in three main groups: Food, accounting for 40 percent of total CPI; Non-Food, which represent 35 percent and Services making up the remaining 25 percent. The most important food items are meat (8.1 percent), fruits & vegetables (6.2 percent), milk & dairy products (5.5 percent) and bread (2.9 percent). The non-food items are mainly composed of clothing & footwear (5.9 percent) and fuels (5.9 percent); and services include housing (10.5 percent), utilities (8.7 percent) and transportation (2.4 percent).

The annual inflation rate in Moldova accelerated to 7% in December 2024, from 5.4% in the prior month. This marked the highest reading since September 2023, as prices increased sharply for services (10.5% vs 3.3% in November). Meanwhile, inflation slowed for both non-food (4.6% vs 4.8%) and food products (7.2% vs 7.5%), particularly for vegetables (-2.8%) and fresh fruits (-3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1%, the highest since April, following a 0.3% gain in the preceding period.
