In Mongolia, the most important categories in the consumer price index are food and non-alcoholic beverages (39.7 percent of the total weight); clothing, footwear (15.3 percent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (10.8 percent). The index also includes: transports (9.0 percent); furnishings, household equipment, and tools (5.6 percent); education (5.4 percent); recreation and culture (3.1 percent); communication (2.9 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.8 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (2.7 percent); health (1.8 percent) and restaurants and hotels (1.0 percent).
Latest Updates
The annual inflation rate in Mongolia increased to 9.0% in December 2024 from 8.1% in the previous month. This marked the highest reading since October 2023, as prices accelerated for most cpi groups namely: food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.9% vs 7.4% in November), clothing & footwear (9.4% vs 8.4%), housing & utilities (23% vs 22.1% ), and restaurants & hotels (11.1% vs 9.3%). Meanwhile, costs remained unchanged for communication (at 1.6%) and education (at 18.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.2%, following a 1.7% gain in the preceding period.
