In Sweden, because new orders heavily affect business confidence they are a leading indicator for growth in gross domestic product. The statistics is sample- and register-based and aims to measure short-term changes in new orders and turnover in industry on a monthly basis, in total and by industry, as well as domestic and export market. The survey is coordinated with other economy-based surveys.

Total orders received by Swedish industry rose by 2.5% year-on-year in February 2025, sharply easing from an upwardly revised 16.9% advance in January. This marks the softest growth of total demand in four periods, as foreign orders grew at a much more moderate pace (6.0% vs 30.4%), while domestic demand continued to decline (-3.5% vs -2.0%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, new orders dropped by 6.2%, following a 2.6% rise in the previous period.
