In Sweden, because new orders heavily affect business confidence they are a leading indicator for growth in gross domestic product. The statistics is sample- and register-based and aims to measure short-term changes in new orders and turnover in industry on a monthly basis, in total and by industry, as well as domestic and export market. The survey is coordinated with other economy-based surveys.

Total orders received by Swedish industries fell by 0.1% year-on-year in July 2024, following an upwardly revised 1% rise in the previous month. Orders from the domestic market dropped further (-3.8% vs -3.5% in June), while those from customers abroad rose at a slower pace (1.7% vs 3.1%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, new orders decreased by 3.9% in July, after an upwardly revised 2.7% growth in June.
