Chile's unemployment rate reached 8.7% in the July–September 2024 quarter, slightly below market expectations of 8.9%, marking a 0.2 percentage point (pp) annual decline. This was driven by a 2.4% increase in employment, outpacing the labor force growth of 2.2%. Women's unemployment remained at 9.2%, with slight increases in workforce participation and employment, while men's unemployment decreased to 8.4% with a 2.1% drop in unemployed men. Informal employment rose to 27.0% (+0.3 pp), primarily in commerce and education. In the Metropolitan Region, unemployment dropped to 9.1%, with employment up by 2.0%, led by gains in education, commerce, and information and communications.
