Latest Updates
The unemployment rate in Chile fell to 8% in January 2025, the lowest in two year and below market expectations of 8.2%. This represents a 0.4 percentage point decrease compared to the previous year, driven by a 0.8% increase in the labor force, which was outpaced by a 1.3% rise in employed people. Unemployed individuals decreased by 4.1%, mainly due to a 4.2% drop in those previously employed and a 2.8% decline in first-time job seekers. The female unemployment rate rose to 9.1% (+0.3 pp), while the male rate dropped to 7.2% (-1.0 pp). Informal employment fell to 26.3%, decreasing by 1.3 pp over the year, mainly due to fewer informal workers in commerce and manufacturing sectors.
